Another Dimension explores the dynamic relationship between form and content in contemporary art, by positioning sculpture as part of a broader two and three-dimensional spatial practice. The exhibition showcases six contemporary Australian artists who, working across and between media, have creatively ventured into other dimensions: Benjamin Armstrong, Sanné Mestrom, Robert Owen, Steaphan Paton, Marian Tubbs, and Michelle Ussher.

Benjamin Armstrong’s otherworldly sculptures are complemented by organic prints which evoke cosmological and evolutionary forces. Sanné Mestrom maintains a dialogue with modernist forms and styles with an inventive use of materials. Robert Owen’s abstract work moves between sculpture, painting and photography in poetic response to visual and aural sensation. Steaphan Paton uses painting, sculpture, installation and video to explore colonialism and conflict from a contemporary perspective. Marian Tubbs’ vibrant work is concerned with the materiality of the image and the interplay between two- and three-dimensionality. Michelle Ussher’s alluring paintings and delicate porcelain sculptures explore themes of intimacy and sexuality, to reconfigure archetypal narratives and stereotypes of female identity.
